To celebrate the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in Europe and North America, Sakurai has announced in the "Pic of the day" in Miiverse that Diddy Kong will be returns as a fighter in SSB WiiU/3DS:

"Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is out now in Europe and North America! ...And to celebrate, Diddy Kong joins the battle!!"
